Playground
Playground draws upon the thought of Isamu Noguchi, who imagined play spaces as open fields for discovery rather than prescriptive environments. In place of instructing the body to “swing here, climb there”, the playground becomes, as critic Thomas Hess describes, a site for “endless exploration”. Here, play is shaped by curiosity, movement and intuition.
Bringing together artists across an array of disciplines, Playground unfolds as a shifting landscape of possibility. A place where meaning remains open and where each passage through the space offers a new point of departure.

Halo
Halo draws upon the halo as both form and philosophy: a circular configuration grounded in unity, ritual and reverence. Set within the former Parade Ground at North Head, Manly, the exhibition brings together contemporary ceramic works that form a constellation of presence, embodying the tactile beauty of clay and the passage of time. Against the striking red earth, the works enter into dialogue with the site’s layered histories, continuing an enduring conversation between earth, hand and history. Each work carries the traces of human touch, evoking what Walter Benjamin described as the unique presence of an artwork in time and space. Together, they explore ritual, radiance, aura and encounter.

You gave yourself to places so that they could give you back
‘You gave yourself to places so that they could give you back’
explores place as both tangible site and imagined realm, existing between
what is and what was, and shaping who we become within it. The exhibition
considers the dialogue between self and surrounding, with place understood
as both material environment and firmament. Abstract paintings form the
predominant element, drawing on colours and textures of the natural world
and responding to the barn’s timber structure. Sculptures deepen the
exhibition’s material and conceptual depth, offering viewers a more
immersive experience. By creating artworks that respond to the statement
‘you gave yourself to places so that they could give you back’,
the exhibition itself will become a meditation on how places shape and are
shaped by the art they hold.

I thought of you and knew you would be looking at the sky
Thinking it could have something to do with the warmth. A summer image now, lighting on the surface for just one moment. She said she had noticed more dragonflies but it depends on where you are looking. I was mostly preoccupied with the signature of the sun, for example, low and honeyed above the line that notes the end of green and start of blue. Nothing is rushed. Colours and shadows are noticed. Overhead, the sky as a poem for each elicited idea. Everything makes a mark.
